INTRODUCTION
With the opening of the railroad from Paris to Rouen
in 1843, the railroad is going to mark, very early, and profoundly the history
of the Rouennaise agglomeration .
The installation of engineering workshops of locomotives and wagons as
well as those of their maintenance is going to allow to root profoundly a
“cheminote” tradition in a region marked up to here almost exclusively by the
textile industry.
It is the history of one of these workshops, named today «Technicentre of
Rouen Quatre-Mares ", which the G.A.Q.M suggests you discovering.
In through the themes and more than 900 photos, we attempted to restore the
activity of these workshops, as many from the point of view of buildings, than
of that of work and of that of the men and to render tribute to the successive
generations of Railwaymen which spent their life in one of the biggest repair
workshops of the French railroads.
